Take Action. Be a Hero. National Radon Action Month

January has been designated as National Radon Action Month by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is an effort to raise awareness about the health dangers associated with radon exposure. It is serious stuff – the American Lung Association states that radon is the 2nd-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, resulting in an estimated 21,000 deaths annually. While concerning, the presence of radon in your home is something you can manage for the safety of your family.

The first step is to test. Since radon cannot be detected by sight, smell, or taste, a test is required. The EPA recommends testing at least every two years. And testing conducted by an industry-certified professional is recommended to ensure accurate results. All Certified Radon Technicians are professionally trained to meet and exceed industry standards. We’ve conducted thousands of tests across the region in homes of all ages and layouts – new and old, basements, slabs, crawl spaces – you name it.

If your home tests above recommended safe levels (4 pCi/L and above), you can reduce radon to a safe level with the installation of a mitigation system to vent the carcinogen out of your home. Not only will this make your home healthier, it will give you peace of mind that your family is safe from the deadly effects of radon.

January is a great time to take action for your family. I invite you to learn more facts about radon. If you’re ready to make that resolution, we’re offering $50 off residential radon testing for the month of January. Plus, we’re donating $10 from each test to support pediatric cancer research at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Learn more here.

Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy 2018!
