To better position your property for sale, or to make an educated investment in a new (or new-to-you) property, doing your homework on radon – and how it may impact your transaction – is a good idea.
The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has recommended action plans for both buyers and sellers. This month, as the seasonal real estate market heats up, Certified Radon is sharing the top four EPA recommendations when it comes to buying or selling a home:
- If you are buying or selling a home, have it tested for radon.
- For a new home, ask if radon-resistant construction features were used and if the home has been tested.
- Fix the home if the radon level is 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher. Radon levels less than 4 pCi/L still pose a risk and, in many cases, may be reduced.
- Take steps to prevent device interference when conducting a radon test.
